Until now, seeing cost data came with the role. That forced a bad choice: make a team lead a Manager and they see payroll, or keep payroll private and the lead loses the tools they need. Financial access is now a separate switch, set per person.
What it covers
With financial access off, a person still sees every delivery, flow, quality and DORA metric. What disappears is the money: salaries and payroll, task and project cost, cost per story point, investment, operating expense and ROI, budgets, and the pages that are entirely financial: Cost Analysis and Product Directions.
It disappears completely: no $0, no dash, no empty card. A page that is entirely financial says Financial information is restricted.
The same rule holds beyond the screen:
- Exports made by someone without access leave out the cost rows.
- Scheduled exports follow the creator's access at the time they are sent, so revoking access also stops it in reports already scheduled.
- AI reports generated for someone without access are written without any cost, salary or ROI data. A saved AI report that was generated with financial data shows nobody without access its content.
- The Organization health score is identical either way. Only what you can see changes, never the number.
How to set it
Go to People, edit the employee, open the Access tab, and toggle Financial information.
- Only Admins can change it, and nobody can grant it to themselves.
- Admins always have it.
- Accounts an Admin creates start from their role's default: on for Admin, HR and Manager, off for everyone else. Accounts created by anyone else start with financial access off.
Existing users kept the access their role gave them. One thing did tighten: a few cost figures that used to be visible to every role, such as cost per story point on team rows and the Cost Analysis menu entry, are now hidden from people without financial access. If someone on a User or Viewer role relied on those, an admin can switch access on for them.
Worth doing this week
If you have Managers who should lead delivery without seeing salaries, or a finance partner who needs cost but not admin rights, this is the setting for them. A five-minute pass through the People list is enough.
