Why
Teams ship in different containers. Some close milestones, some close epics, and some use a task type of their own, such as Release or Feature. Until now these cards counted milestones only, so a team that delivers epics looked like it delivered nothing.
How to set it
Open Lens settings for your View and find Milestones Completed — what counts. You can get there three ways:
- from the View menu, Lens settings;
- on the dashboard, the gear on the Throughput card;
- on Velocity, open the Milestones Completed card and click Change what counts.
Tick the task types that count. Next to each one you see how many of them closed in the selected period, so you know what a type adds before you save. Plain tasks and subtasks are not offered: Tasks Completed already counts them.
The choice belongs to the View, like your cycle-time statuses. One View can count milestones and epics for a leadership review while a team's View counts milestones only. Saving a shared View changes the numbers for everyone who uses it.
What you will see
- The Milestones Completed card says what it counts, for example Counts milestones and epics.
- The Velocity chart's Milestones view, the card and the list behind the card always count the same items.
- Opening the card lists every counted item and labels each one with its type when more than one type counts.
- Throughput on the dashboard uses the same choice, and its unit changes to items when more than one type counts.
- An item counts the same way a milestone always has: it closed in the period, and a selected person worked on it or on anything inside it.
Views that never choose keep counting milestones only.
