This changes how a number is computed. Your charts can move without your data moving. Each change is named below with the reason for it.

What was wrong

Two parts of the product disagreed about what a completed milestone is:

  • The Milestones Completed card on Velocity, the list behind it, and Throughput on the dashboard counted whatever the Milestones page listed as a group. When the Milestones page was set to show epics, closed epics were counted too.
  • The Velocity chart's Milestones view counted milestones only.

So for a company whose Milestones page showed epics, the card could be higher than the sum of the chart's bars over the same period. A setting meant to tidy a page was quietly changing a headline number.

What changed

Which task types count is now a setting of the View (Lens settings → Milestones Completed — what counts). The card, the list behind it, the chart and Throughput all read it. A View that has never chosen counts milestones only, which is what the chart always counted. What the Milestones page shows no longer affects any count.

What you will see

  • If your Milestones page was set to show epics, Milestones Completed and Throughput go down by the number of epics closed in the period. The chart does not change.
  • If it was not, nothing changes.
  • To count epics again, tick Epic in Lens settings and save the View. The card, the chart and Throughput then all count them, and the card says Counts milestones and epics.
